New QB: Steelers Predicted to Draft FSU Star

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a new name to watch in the NFL Draft.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are quarterback hunting, but after a lackluster week for prospects at the 2024 Senior Bowl, a new name has emerged as a candidate for Pittsburgh. ESPN predicts the team will utilize the third round to select a flashy quarterback who may have won the Heisman if not for an injury.

As they predict the landing spots for all the top-name quarterbacks on the free agency market and in the NFL Draft, ESPN believes Florida State star Jordan Travis is headed to the Steelers with the 84th pick.

"At his end-of-season news conference, coach Mike Tomlin said Kenny Pickett will resume his status as the team's starting quarterback in 2024 but will have competition. Travis' season ended prematurely with a left lower-leg injury that will likely hamper him in the pre-draft evaluation period, but taking a swing on him could have big upside for the Steelers. Travis is undersized, but his mobility, playmaking ability and pocket presence make him an intriguing prospect in a league that increasingly values quarterbacks with versatile skill sets to run the offense," Brooke Pryor writes.

Travis finished his final season with 2,7560 yards and 20 touchdowns, and helped lead the way for FSU to finish the regular season undefeated. He was considered a Heisman candidate prior to his leg injury.

The Steelers reportedly met with Travis down at the East-West Shrine Bowl. If they aren't sold with the passers near the 20th pick in the draft, they may look to wait before adding another young name to their depth chart - leaving Travis in the third round as an option.
