Steelers Done Pursuing Four QB Options

The Pittsburgh Steelers have shut down their quarterback search.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are shutting down their efforts of pursuing a few veterans available via free agency or trade. According to The Athletic, the team is no longer pursuing four names they've been associated with this offseason.

Those names are Justin Fields, Russell Wilson, Kirk Cousins and Baker Mayfield. The Athletic's Dianna Russini reports all four are off the board for Pittsburgh, and the team is not currently pursuing any of them as they move closer toward free agency.

"The Steelers are not interested in signing Wilson in the likely event he’s released by the Denver Broncos, a source familiar with the coaching staff’s feelings on the quarterback at this stage of his career told The Athletic," Mike DeFebo writes.

"Additionally, Pittsburgh is not among the teams actively working to trade for Fields, league sources told The Athletic’s Dianna Russini. Pittsburgh is also not pursuing Kirk Cousins or Baker Mayfield in free agency, according to league sources."

The Steelers were reportedly "in the conversation" for Fields less than a week ago, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. While there was never much traction for Cousins or Mayfield, Wilson was a name to watch once he was released by Denver.

Not anymore.

The Steelers appear ready to move forward with Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph as their quarterbacks this season. They've been in contact with Rudolph's agents and are hoping to re-sign the veteran before free agency.

If not, they'll reassess their options for the position.
