The Tennessee Titans released 33 players from their offseason roster in order to get to regular season limit of 53 by Saturday’s 3 p.m. (CDT) deadline.

In addition, rookie defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons, the first-round pick in this year’s draft, was placed on the Non-Football Injury (NFI) list, just as he was for training camp, and left tackle Taylor Lewan was placed on the Reserve-Suspended list, where he will remain for the first four weeks of the season.

Finally, the Titans traded wide receiver Taywan Taylor to the Cleveland Browns for a 2020 draft pick. The Titans and Browns will meet in the opener, Sept. 8 at Cleveland.

Of note:

• Guard/center Corey Levin was the only one of the players cut who was a Titans draft pick. Tennessee selected him in the sixth round in 2017 out of Chattanooga. He spent two full seasons on the active roster and appeared in 18 games with one start.

• Five players were drafted by other franchises between 2015 and 2018. They were: Grasu (Chicago, third round, 2015), Eligwe (fifth round, Kansas City, 2017); Yancey (fifth round, Green Bay, 2017); McNichols (fifth round, Tampa Bay, 2015); and Woodside (seventh round, Cincinnati, 2018).

• Jeremy McNichols (pictured) was the Titans’ leading rusher for most of the offseason but ultimately lost out to Dalyn Dawkins, an undrafted free agent in 2018, who rushed for 117 yards on 13 carries in the preseason finale against Chicago.

• Logan Woodside was one of five quarterbacks who passed for more than 500 yards in the preseason but was the only one of the five who did not throw an interception. He played in all four games and was 46-76 (60.5 percent) for 539 yards with four touchdowns.

• Of this season’s 17 rookie free agents, 16 were released.

• McNichols and wide receiver Cody Hollsiter were the only ones among seven Titans with a touchdown reception in the preseason who did not make the 53-man roster.
