Tennessee Titans Named 'Best Bet' to Win AFC South in 2023

The Tennessee Titans barely lost the AFC South in 2022 after a rash of injuries, but according to The Athletic, the Titans are the "best bet" to win the division in 2023.

NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans are not the favorites to win the AFC South at most sportsbooks. In fact, even after the DeAndre Hopkins news, the Titans typically find themselves with the second-best odds to win the division, but The Athletic recently named the Titans as the "best bet" in the AFC South.

According to the odds used in the piece, the Jacksonville Jaguars are the favorites at -155 with the Titans at +325, the Indianapolis Colts at +550 and the Houston Texans at +900. Considering those odds, it is easy to see why the Titans are the "best bet" among the four. Here is what the writer of the piece, Austin Mock, had to say.

"The Titans made big headlines last week by signing DeAndre Hopkins which gives them a true No. 1 option at the wide receiver position next to second-year player Treylon Burks. Running back Derrick Henry has some mileage but a better passing attack should ease some of the burden. I’m not super high on Tennessee, but head coach Mike Vrabel has repeatedly found a way to surprise and I expect similar results with two rookie quarterbacks in the division. The Jaguars are the rightful division favorites and another step forward from Trevor Lawrence likely cooks this bet, but the Titans should be closer to 30 percent odds to win the division than 20 percent."

The Titans had a league-leading 34 players on injured reserve last year. They went into the final week of the season with Josh Dobbs at quarterback and mostly backups at every other position too and they were one controversial fumble call away from winning the division anyways.

To get that team, and a team led by Mike Vrabel, at the odds the Titans are getting compared to Jacksonville is a steal. The reality is public perception strongly favors Jacksonville because they are a more exciting team with a good young quarterback. That creates an advantage that bettors can take advantage of.

Another key here is the schedule. For the first time in two seasons, the Titans won't play a first-place schedule. The Jaguars will go from a fourth-place schedule to a first-place one. This could create a big swing too.

The Titans are a great bet right now with excellent value and clearly that is being recognized by some.
