Titans Selecting Peter Skoronski Named Titans 'Best Move' of Offseason by CBS Sports

The Tennessee Titans made a number of changes and moves this offseason, but according to a recent list from CBS Sports, drafting offensive lineman Peter Skoronski was the best move they made.

NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans offseason has been filled with change. From front office changes to re-working the coaching staff to turning over the roster, the Titans have renovated all parts of their organization.

Out of all the moves made though, drafting Peter Skoronski in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft was named as the Titans' "best move" of the offseason in a recent list by CBS Sports' Cody Benjamin. Here is what Benjamin said about his pick.

"Drafting OT Peter Skoronski doesn't solve bigger-picture questions about their playmakers of the future (or lack thereof), but any added help up front should be welcome in Tennessee. Losing both Taylor Lewan and Nate Davis meant this team badly needed O-line reinforcements, and the Northwestern rookie has both tackle and guard ability."

Benjamin is right that Skoronski doesn't solve the Titans' lack of playmakers, but with the lack of top-end talent at receiver in the draft and the general meh-ness of the free agent class, it's hard to see how the Titans could have done that anyways.

Skoronski is a heck of a consolation prize. While most focus on the Titans' wide receivers, those who focus on the team would know the offensive line is in just as much of a bad spot as the playmakers. Benjamin notes the loss of Lewan and Davis, but even bigger than those could be the loss of center Ben Jones who could retire, but at this stage is still a free agent.

The reality is, Skoronski is the best move the Titans could have made all offseason and they were lucky a player of Skoronski's caliber fell to the eleventh pick. As Titans general manager Ran Carthon said before the draft, the Titans needed a "blue(chip) player" out of this draft.

That is exactly what they got. Skoronski was already slated to be the team's starting left guard, but with the recent news of Nicholas Petit-Frere being suspended, now Skoronski may need to play some tackle as well. His versatility already paying off.

Whether it be the short term or the long term, Skoronski will be a valuable asset. The seven-game losing streak and loss to Jacksonville at the end of the 2022 season was painful, but Skoronski has the potential to make it all worth it.
