NASHVILLE -  What's left for Tennessee Titans general manager Ran Carthon to do on the final day before his roster reports to St. Thomas Sports Park for the opening of the team's 2023 training camp?

That's the question that I woke with as we in the media also prepare for the opening of camp and the grind that an NFL season is on those in and who cover this league.

As for what's left for Carthon, the most significant remaining need for this roster is finding the answer for the right tackle opening created by the six-game suspension of Nicholas Petite-Frere.

The Titans worked out offensive tackle George Fant and offensive lineman Chris Hubbard on Saturday, and reports indicated that there was mutual interest between the team and Fant but that a deal was not reached following that workout.

The team can be willing to move forward with either Jamarco Jones or Jaelyn Duncan to fill the temporary vacancy. Still, those could be riskier solutions than Fant, who has played both left and right tackle in his career. As for Hubbard, he has played both guard and tackle and would add a layer of versatility, and he is likely looking for less cash than Fant.

Both Fant and Hubbard likely have leverage in any negotiations if the Titans are set on adding one of them because of the Titans' need; however, if the team is willing to go with someone already on the roster, that would lessen the team's need and place more pressure on a player looking to find a contract this late.

If there is to be movement here, it should happen soon and not drag out because both sides realize that either player will need time to learn the offense and work into the rotation alongside the other lineman.

The other possible position where the Titans and Carthon could look to add talent is at edge rusher.

Right now, Harold Landry and Arden Key are set as the starting duo, with Rashad Weaver as the top backup, who could be ready for a breakout campaign. After that, the roster is charged with potential but unproven talent.

Some intriguing edge rushers/outside linebackers are available who could provide spot duty and ensure a solid backup in place in case of injury or should Landry struggle in his return from injury.

Kyle Van Noy is a name that has made the rounds locally as a potential fit here. At the same time, Yannick Ngakoue, Melvin Ingram, Justin Houston, and Carlos Dunlap are also available, and each has had moments of stardom in this league.

There has been no indication that the Titans are in the market at this spot. Still, it's also possible they could soon begin to look around, depending on how things go in the first days of camp when the team will start to see what they have in these younger, proven talents on this roster.
