Red Wings Star Moritz Seider Addresses the Trade Request of Captain Dylan Larkin

The Detroit Red Wings were hoping to find stability and optimism for the future this off-season, but with the departure of Steve Yzerman in the GM/President of Hockey Operations role and few moves beyond that, the team hasn't done enough to improve over the summer.
As a result, the season is now less than six weeks away, and given the ongoing drama with Dylan Larkin, with the drama heightening after he was omitted from a social media post, the new GM/POHO has their work cut out for them.
The biggest move of all they need to make is figuring out the situation involving Larkin, and now we've heard from one of his teammates, as star defenseman Moritz Seider has broken his silence on the trade request and the drama surrounding it.
Moritz Seider Addresses Dylan Larkin's Trade Request
Given that Larkin is the captain of the Red Wings, one would have expected teammates to address the situation before now, and after months of silence, Seider, who wore an 'A' with the team this past season, with many seeing him as Larkin's replacement as captain, has opened up on the situation.
That wasn't exactly something you saw coming. Everyone certainly has their reasons for making certain decisions. Whether I or we approve of it is not for us to answer. But it's clear that we're a better team when Dylan Larkin is on the roster and playing, than when he isn't.

Unsurprisingly, Seider was caught by surprise with Larkin's request, but in stating whether or not he wants Larkin on his team moving forward, he makes it clear that with No. 71 on the ice, the Red Wings are a much better team.
When Will We Get a Resolution on Dylan Larkin?
Right now, the future in Detroit is completely up in the air, as there have been conflicting reports on interviews for the GM/POHO role on top of just one of Larkin's preferred teams having interest in him, meaning that for the other players, there's absolutely no knowing what will happen through the next few weeks.
Not only that, but given the recent breakdown in the relationship with Larkin and the front office, it's highly unlikely that the relationship could be repaired before the 2026/27 season, meaning that a trade is the most likely outcome.
However, Seider's comments show that in the locker room, that relationship could certainly be repaired, as the team’s other leaders believe that they are a much better team with him on the ice.
Ultimately, nobody truly knows how this is going to play out in the six weeks heading into the 2026/27 season, with the hiring of a new General Manager likely to affect how things play out, but if Seider's thoughts are shared by the rest of Larkin's teammates, a return could certainly be possible.
