Australian GP FP2 Results: What Happened In Free Practice 2

After a dramatic FP1 it was finally time to get back in the seat for the second practice session of the racing weekend.

With teams losing 5 minutes at the end of FP1 due to a red flag caused by an issue with Logan Sargeant's Williams, they'll be looking to utilise the time here as best they can.

Sargeant doesn't make it back onto track as his car undergoes repairs.

Standout Moments

Ferrari was the first to leave the pits but Lando Norris was the first to put on a show as he drifted out of the garage. There was rain in the air, and the wind is up.

Alonso quickly put a time in on medium tyres topping the timesheet ahead of the Red Bulls and Ferrari. Yes, Aston Martin tend to run a little lighter in testing, but at 8-tenths ahead, this looks very promising for the Spaniard.

Like FP1 there was plenty of traffic for drivers to compete with, and rain only made it harder for drivers to navigate the interesting track so with everyone heading back to the pits - apart from Sargeant who hadn't left yet - Lewis' W14 was undergoing yet more adjustments.

Thanks to the rain it was a very slow FP2. There's not a lot we can learn from today's second practice session apart from how much Lance Stroll is struggling with his Aston Martin in the rain. With this being the first time we've seen the 2023 cars run in the rain, it's fair to say they're a bit playful under wet conditions with Russell especially showing us what it looks like to drive a Mercedes sideways.

A bit of a slow one today, let's hope we see a bit more tomorrow ahead of qualifying.
