Canadian GP Results: Valtteri Bottas Tops FP1 Timesheets After Failed Session

The Canadian Grand Prix weekend has taken place with the first of three practice sessions and Valtteri Bottas has topped the timesheets.

Following the Alfa Romeo driver was Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso who put in the second and third fastest times, respectively. However, this is not comparable of anything as the session was red flagged after about seven minutes meaning that many drivers were not able to put any times on the board.

Under five minutes into the first practice session of the weekend, fans saw Pierre Gasly's Alpine pulled over on the side of the track causing a yellow flag in sector 2. The French driver still had the car running but was seemingly struggling to get it out of neutral.

Shortly after, a red flag was put on the session to recover Gasly's A523 from the track. Alpine team principal Otmar Szafnauer, explained to Sky Sports F1 that they believe the issue was clutch-related and that it should be a quick-fix.

The red flag ended up staying on the session for much longer than anticipated as there were issues with the CCTV cameras around the track. An update was shared to social media:

"The delay to FP1 will continue as the CCTV is not synced correctly and until the issue has been fixed track action can’t resume. This system is a local installation and circuit management are continuing to work to resolve the problem."

The FIA has confirmed that due to the delays and red flag, FP2 will be extended by half an hour.
