Daniel Ricciardo has spoken out on his hopeful F1 return and where he is currently in the process of rejoining the grid for 2024.

McLaren revealed that they were parting ways with the Australian driver during the 2022 season. As time progressed it became apparent that the fan-favourite was struggling to secure a full-time seat for the 2023 season.

It was later confirmed that Red Bull had signed Ricciardo on as their third driver for the season seeing a reunion between the parties after he drove for the Austrian team between 2014 and 2018.

Despite being in a reserve driver role for 2023, Ricciardo is still keen to get back into a permanent seat for 2024. Although, he has revealed in a recent interview that he would only do so if it was for a competitive team, potentially sending a sly snub to Haas who has expressed their interest in the driver.

During an interview with The Athletic, Ricciardo explained his current position with regards to his return to the grid. He commented:

“I’m glad I’m not foaming at the mouth, because then I’d probably be questioning s***. ‘Should I have taken the year off?’ But it is brewing.

“I’ve never won a world championship. But for a big part of my career, I was at least fighting for wins or podiums. I always considered myself as good, if not better, than everyone else.”

“I’m trying to put myself in the mindset of, if I was competing, how would I feel? Where’s my energy at?

“I want all those answers now so I can get into next year with a clear plan.”
