Dutch GP Results: Max Verstappen Goes Fastest In FP1

Max Verstappen put in the fastest time during the Dutch GP Free Practice One. Following the Red Bull driver were Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton who put in the second and third fastest times, respectively.
Rain is posing a threat to the various sessions throughout the weekend. However, luckily the drivers and teams had a dry FP1 to be able to get back into things after the summer break.

Carlos Sainz sat out of the first free practice session with Ferrari reserve driver Robert Shwartzman taking his SF-23 out for the 60 minutes.
There was a mixture of tyre choices with some drivers taking the Zandvoort track on the hard compound tyres and others on the mediums. Halfway through the session, Logan Sargeant was the first driver to move onto soft tyres which quickly saw him assume the top spot on the time board.
Lewis Hamilton and George Russell were putting in some great times closely behind Max Verstappen after the Mercedes team brought upgrades to the W14 cars. However, Aston Martin which also introduced upgrades this weekend, seemed to be having issues. Lance Stroll was called into the pits with a suspected engine problem which saw him out of the session.
A red flag was put on the session with just twenty minutes to go after Nico Hulkenberg span off on the penultimate corner and collided with the race wall. Luckily, from the looks of things there will be minimal damage to the VF-23. Annoyingly for Hamilton, he was on a flying lap at the time which he obviously had to abort.
With three minutes to go, Shwartzman complained to the Ferrari team of a lack of control of the rear of the SF-23.
Despite putting the fastest time in, Verstappen suffered from a lock-up at the end causing him to run off onto the gravel, however, this is unlikely to have caused him any issues or damage.
