F1 CEO Teases Another American Grand Prix Amid Sport's Expansion Plans

Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has sparked excitement among American racing fans by refusing to rule out the possibility of adding a fourth Grand Prix to the F1 calendar in the United States. While acknowledging that three races in the US is the right amount for the next couple of years, Domenicali hinted that F1 is exploring options to further tap into the growing US audience.

With F1 cars scheduled to hit the streets of Las Vegas in November as well as Miami in a couple of weeks and Austin in October, America will have three races on the calendar, two of which were introduced in the last two seasons. Despite some alarm about the number of races the country could host, fans have welcomed the new additions to the US circuit.

The popularity of F1 has dramatically increased in America over the last few years, helped by Netflix's Drive to Survive, so F1 bosses are keen to continue with this growth.

During an interview with Sky Sports about the future of the F1 calendar, Domenicali stated:

"There is a lot of interest in far East Asia, more interest in the US. But in this moment, we have three [US races], which I think is the right number for the next couple of years. The most important thing is that every Grand Prix has to be different in terms of personality – we want to have the city living the event; that's the magic of Formula 1."

Domenicali's comments suggest that F1 will not rush to add more US races to the calendar, but they confirm that the organisation is exploring the possibility of expanding its presence in America. F1's focus on delivering unique experiences for each Grand Prix is also likely to reassure fans who may have been concerned about the dilution of the sport's brand with too many races.

F1's expansion in the US has been a long time coming. The sport's popularity in America has struggled to compete with other racing series such as NASCAR, but the recent success of the US races has reignited excitement among American fans. With the possibility of more races on the horizon, F1's future in the US looks bright.
