F1 fans have suggested an alternative idea for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in order to still bring some racing to the fans as well as raising money for those affected by the severe flooding.

It was announced yesterday morning that the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix would not be going ahead this weekend amid the ongoing flooding in the area. The horrific flooding has sadly cost nine people their lives and left tens of thousands of locals being displaced.

F1 fans were obviously disappointed to miss a weekend of racing but understand that the most important thing is the safety of those involved and the need for the local authorities to continue with their crucial work to help locals.

When the cancellation was confirmed, Vincenzo Landino posted a suggestion to Twitter, writing:

"With the GP canceled this weekend, I would love to see @F1 get the drivers together for a virtual Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, with proceeds going to help the local area. Partner with @Twitch, have all 20 drivers compete, and race Imola with old V10 cars. Sell tickets for $20."

The suggestion would be to donate the ticket money to charities to help with those in the Emilia Romagna region. Landino continued:

"Also, 'selling tickets' is just a vehicle for collection donations. I’m not suggesting anyone profit here. It all goes to charity. And F1 could match any donations that come through the official donation channel. Whatever that may be."

Other fans had similar suggestions and are pushing for the idea to go ahead. However, there have not been any official confirmations of a virtual event like this taking place.
