Former team principal of Alpine, Otmar Szafnauer, had claimed that the team's financial condition was a cause for concern as it came extremely close to the cost cap ceiling amid concerns of a cash crunch. However, technical director Matt Harman clarified that the team isn't short of funds and that, investments are being made on necessary infrastructure which can help elevate the team's position on the F1 grid.

Alpine got involved with some serious high-level staff restructuring last year as it ousted Szafnauer, chief technical officer Pat Fry, sporting director Alan Permane, former racing director Davide Brivio, and CEO Laurent Rossi in an effort made by parent company Renault to speed up progress to compete with the top teams in Formula 1.

Nevertheless, Szafnauer, who assumed the role of team boss in 2022, disclosed in a YouTube interview with Peter Windsor that Alpine was facing substantial expenditures that approached the budget cap, raising apprehensions about a potential funding shortage.

It's understandable that the French company is keen to see improvements, especially after rebranding its works team as Alpine in 2021. Since the rebranding, the team has managed to secure victories and four podium finishes.

Yet, Harman assured that the team secured ample funds by selling a 24 percent stake to celebrity investors. This financial backing allows the team to cover necessary expenditures for upgrading equipment and infrastructure.

Elaborating on the situation and outlining the team's future strategy, Harman told the media:

"Our focus is very much on the future and the 2026 regulations as well as the cars that we need to do between now and then.

“We’ve also got a big programme at both sites [Enstone and Viry] to improve the capabilities and the functions. You will have seen this in CapEx equalisation topics that have gone on with the FIA.

“We’re fully funded to achieve those, we’re going to put all those pieces of equipment in, there’ll be alive and working to feed into the 2026 regulations. They will also be feeding into cars well before that.

“We’ve been focusing on our simulation tools, we need to be sharp, better at getting good answers to difficult questions more quickly.

“And I’ve experienced that in teams that I’ve worked at in the past. And that’s one of our capability improvements.

“So we’re doing all of those things. And the plan that we’ve had for the last three years from my perspective is unchanged, we’re just accelerating it.

“We’re well funded. We’ve got enough people, it’s just about getting on with it, getting our heads down.”
