F1 News: Austrian Grand Prix Threatened By Wet Weather

The Red Bull Ring is set to host the next race of the Formula 1 season, the 2023 Austrian Grand Prix. Rain has been a significant influence over the preceding three Grand Prix events in Monaco, Spain, and Canada, and it appears to be making a comeback in Austria. Here's a glimpse into the anticipated weather conditions for the 2023 Austrian Grand Prix.
As per the information on Weather.com, showers are predicted across the entire race weekend - Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The possibility of rain persistently remains above 40% throughout the three days in Austria. We could see rainfall beginning as early as Tuesday, continuing on and off until the race weekend concludes.
Given that it's a sprint race weekend, the drivers and teams have a single hour of practice ahead of the weekend's first important session. As the afternoon progresses on Friday, drivers will battle in the qualifying round, shaping the grid for Sunday's main race. There's a 65% chance of afternoon rain showers, with temperatures predicted at a comfortable 24c. Evening showers are also predicted.
Saturday July 1 will see the F1 teams in a brief qualifying round, the sprint shootout, to set the grid for the sprint race scheduled for the afternoon. The likelihood of rainfall climbs to 68%, potentially leading to varying track conditions due to showers. As we approach Sunday, we're looking at consistent temperatures around 24c, and the chance of rainfall rests at an even 50%.
As we saw in the Canadian Grand Prix qualifying session, the rain emphasises the importance of timing from the teams as well as tyre choices. Making the wrong tyre choice saw Sergio Perez and Charles Leclerc surprisingly knocked out of qualifying in Q2.
