F1 News: Canadian Grand Prix Under Threat Due To Ongoing Forest Fires And Severe Smog

The upcoming Canadian Grand Prix might find itself on shaky grounds, thanks to the escalating forest fires ripping through the Quebec region. As per the information from Canadian broadcaster Global News, parts of Montreal are now covered in a dense smog blanket, a consequence of the wildfires that are still blazing in northwestern Quebec.
Warnings of smog and statements regarding air quality have been issued by Environment Canada for multiple areas. In fact, the smoke from the fires has been carried all the way down to New York City. On Tuesday, the weather agency made it clear that "High concentrations of fine particulate matter due to forest fires in Quebec will result in poor air quality in many areas today and tonight.”
The agency further advised:
"Smog especially affects asthmatic children and people with respiratory ailments or heart disease. It is therefore recommended that these individuals avoid intense physical activity outdoors until the smog warning is lifted.”
Scheduled to happen on the weekend of June 16th-18th, the Canadian Grand Prix may face some hurdles if the fires aren't completely under control by then. The region’s fire prevention organization, Société de Protection des Forêts Contre le Feu, has reported 152 active forest fires, with 113 of them being uncontrollable at the moment.
These wildfires have necessitated the evacuation of 10,000 people from their homes. To combat the growing inferno, around 250 firefighters from Canada, the United States, and France are anticipated to join the fight this week. Given these circumstances, the future of the Canadian Grand Prix hangs in the balance, with the state of the forest fires playing a critical role in determining its fate.
