F1 News: Charles Leclerc Jumps To Ferrari's Defence After Monaco Grand Prix Backlash

Charles Leclerc has defended the Ferrari team after the Monaco Grand Prix. The Maranello-based quad came under fire from fans for making strategic errors during the wet weather section of the race, however, the Monegasque driver has backed the team's decision.
During his post-race interview with Sky Sports, Leclerc was asked:
“How much difference would it have made if you pitted earlier for inters?”
To which the Ferrari driver responded:
“We have done mistakes on strategy in the past, but this wasn’t a mistake.
“In those conditions, a safety car is more likely, so we were just trying to wait till the last moment.”
Ferrari came under fire a lot last year for making many strategic mistakes, which many attribute to Mattia Binotto leaving the team at the end of the 2022 season.
More recently, the team received a lot of backlash after the qualifying session yesterday when Leclerc was handed a 3-place grid penalty for impeding Lando Norris' flying lap. Many argued that Leclerc was not given enough time to react by his team in order to get out of the way of Norris in the tunnel.
When asked how he is feeling about the upcoming race in Barcelona next weekend, Leclerc responded:
“We will have a few new parts. I hope it will go in the right direction.
"We do not expect any miracles. But hopefully it will be enough to have a good qualifying, at least.”
Leclerc finished the Monaco Grand Prix in sixth position, earning himself another eight points in the drivers' championship.
The next important F1 date is 2 - 4 June for the Spanish Grand Prix.
