F1 News: Christian Horner Reveals Demand For Sergio Perez Replacement

Ever since Daniel Ricciardo found a driving seat at AlphaTauri, I'm sure many drivers have had a sigh of relief as Sergio Perez's seat at Red Bull remains open, considering the expiry of his contract at the end of 2024. Consequently, Red Bull boss Christian Horner has told the media that he has received a lot of interest from racing drivers for the 2025 seat.
The twist in the story occurred about a month ago when Daniel Ricciardo was hired by AlphaTauri, replacing their driver Nyck de Vries whose contract was terminated with immediate effect. Though the general anticipation was that Ricciardo, the third driver for Red Bull then, would be given a spot beside Race Leader Max Verstappen.
However, Red Bull has been known to make drastic and unpredictable changes if they aren't happy with how things are headed. Ricciardo's performance during the Pirelli tire test was gauged by Red Bull to know his race worthiness- an act that got people leaning toward the front on their chairs. But eventually, Red Bull put him with AlphaTauri because de Vries' performance was just not up to the mark.
Taking into account Perez's performance this season, I'm not sure if Horner would wait until the end of 2024 to part ways. Have a glance at the drivers' standings and you'll notice a huge contrast of 125 points between him (Perez) and Verstappen. However, during the Hungarian GP, Horner acknowledged his contributions to the Constructors' Standings, especially in 2021.
The boss also acknowledged that "Checo" secures a second in the world championship and is the only driver apart from Verstappen who has won a race this year. He assured that "nobody is writing off Checo." Luckily for Perez, that must've been a relieving morale booster.
Nevertheless, if not now, then in 2025- there is someone that Red Bull must be looking closely to hire. Horner reveals that it feels great to receive a lot of interest from not only Ricciardo and Perez but also from drivers outside the "spectrum." He Sky Sports News:
"It's just the position that we're in it's great to have a lot of interest.
"And it's not just from those drivers [Perez and Ricciardo] - it's from drivers outside our spectrum as well regarding 2025."
Speculations have begun on Verstappen's next teammate for 2025. Could it be Ricciardo, Lando Norris, Charles Leclerc, or Red Bull's junior driver Liam Lawson? Or, could it be someone who we're not thinking of just yet?
