F1 News: FIA President's "Good For The Sport" Jibe At FOM As Andretti Cadillac Digs Deeper Into The F1 Grid

FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem passed a casual jibe at FOM by stressing that Andretti Cadillac's F1 entry was "good for the sport" after General Motors confirmed that it would introduce its own power units (PU) in Formula 1 in 2028.
Andretti Cadillac digs deeper into the grid as General Motors has registered itself as a PU supplier with the governing authority. But despite coming a step closer to racing in Formula 1 after receiving approval from the FIA a few weeks ago, Formula 1 hasn't welcomed the sport's eleventh team just yet.

As the sport prepares to enter into a new era of power units in 2026, Cadillac had previously expressed its openness to becoming a PU manufacturer, only if its partnership with Andretti Motorsport was allowed to make it to the F1 grid.
Finally, General Motors has confirmed its intent to introduce its own PU in 2028. GM president Mark Reuss said:
“We are thrilled that our new Andretti Cadillac F1 entry will be powered by a GM power unit.
“With our deep engineering and racing expertise, we’re confident we’ll develop a successful power unit for the series, and position Andretti Cadillac as a true works team.
“We will run with the very best, at the highest levels, with passion and integrity that will help elevate the sport for race fans around the world.”
Red Bull principal Christian Horner had claimed that Andretti needed an OEM team to back them but now since that option has been ticked, Ben Sulayem has jumped in to show his support.
The FIA president has been critical of F1's resistance to the addition of an eleventh team to the grid, such as Andretti Cadillac. Passing an indirect jibe to the protestors by terming Cadillac's move as "good for the sport," he posted a social media message saying:
“Delighted with the news that GM have registered as a PU supplier for FIA F1.
“This is a further endorsement of the FIA’s PU regulations. The presence of iconic American brands Andretti and GM is good for the sport.”
