Former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher questioned the current challenges being faced by Aston Martin with their Formula 1 car in the second half of the season. He asked if former Red Bull employee Dan Fallows' knowledge of the RB19 had reached a dead end, thus creating a roadblock on the car's further development plans.

Fallows brought in a lot of information from the Red Bull garage after joining Aston Martin as technical director in April last year. He was responsible for bringing in a lot of information about Red Bull's car design, which helped develop the current AMR23.

Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko even pointed out after the Bahrain Grand Prix this year that there were three Red Bulls on the podium when Fernando Alonso finished third behind Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez.

The advisor said, “If you compare the cars, the Aston Martin is most similar to our Red Bull." Pointing out Fallows, he said “Not only did Fallows change, but also some other employees, and they obviously have a good memory.”

But while Aston Martin performed at its peak early in the season when it earned six podium finishes in the first eight races, the last ten Grands Prix saw Alonso secure only a single podium finish. And despite the repeated upgrades, there has been nothing concrete to have come out of their Silverstone base just yet.

This caused Schumacher to question if the Red Bull effect brought in by Fallows had reached a dead end beyond which, he knew nothing about the source car's development. He told F1-Insider.com:

“I hope they find their form again. After Mexico we certainly know more.

"But what if the former Red Bull man Fallows was able to bring a lot of Red Bull’s know-how to the car this year and now his cornucopia is simply empty because he no longer knew of the further developments of his former team?

"In any case, that could also be a reason for the stagnation in performance.”

The Wrong Path Taken

However, Fallows stated that the path Aston Martin chose was a result of the team going wrong with its simulation tools. But, Horner chose to respond to Fallows with a warning. He said:

“You have to know as early as possible in the season what direction you are going for next year.

"If you make a mistake, you could be in for a rude awakening at the start of the new season. Mercedes had this experience in 2023.”
