George Russell has explained the details of his Canadian Grand Prix crash, leading many to call for sausage kerbs to be banned yet again.

The British driver lost control on the chicane and ended up colliding with the race wall. Russell managed to get the car back to the pits to change the front wing and tyres and to many fans' surprise, he got back out on the track to continue with the race. However, later down the line, Russell was instructed to retire the car after brake issues.

During an interview with the media after the race, Russell explained what had happened:

“I don’t know if it was obvious from the TV, I just went a bit wide into Turn 8.“I knew I was going to hit the kerb, but I wasn’t expecting the sausage kerb to have such a violent response, and next thing I’m in the air, I landed and lost the rear, and I’m in the wall.

“It all happened really quite suddenly. Sorry to the team, for sure there was P3, P4 on the cards for us both, but positives to take away that the car was reasonably competitive.”

This has led many to continue to call for sausage kerbs to be banned. One engineer and fan took to social media, writing:

"It’s well past time for sausage kerbs to go: 'I knew I was going to hit the kerb, but I wasn’t expecting the sausage kerb to have such a violent response, and next thing I’m in the air, I landed and lost the rear, and I’m in the wall.'"

"These dangerous devices simply are not fit for purpose, it's time we collectively admit this and make changes..."

This is not the first issue caused by a sausage kerb during a race, reminding many of Abbie Eaton's crash in the W Series in 2021. Eaton suffered two broken vertebrae after her car hit a sausage kerb.

Another fan commented on the sausage kerbs, also disagreeing with them. They wrote:

"The sausage kerbs suck. But that driver also shouldn't be clattering over them in race trim either trying to stay with a teammate who they thought might roll over for them this season after spending last year sorting out issues for the team or slightly disengaged. Just sayin.."

Someone else responded:

"100% agree Bryson. They're positively draconian, especially in a cost cap era, and that's before getting into the safety issues of these cars becoming airborne or having suspension made from granite and marble. They're a bad idea on about 6 fronts"
