F1 News: Helmut Marko's Red Bull Future To Be Decided Next Week

Red Bull motorsport advisor Dr Helmut Marko, who played a key role in the development of the team and its success in an overall sense, will know next week about his future with the team and the organization after a meeting with the management, as his current contract expires at the end of 2024.
The Austrian advisor has been a part of the Milton-Keynes outfit since it joined the Formula 1 grid in 2005. Despite being 80 years old, he was actively involved in Red Bull's driver development program, known for handing over racing opportunities to several drivers who came and went, including current drivers Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez.
Discussion about Marko's future within the team arrived weeks after a report that was doing the rounds, which suggested that current team principal Christian Horner was finding ways to get rid of the advisor to gain complete control over Red Bull's Formula 1 operations.
When Marko was asked for his perspective, he asserted confidently that he determines when to go, "and not for example, Mr. Horner." However, it is said that the advisor's influence within the organization began to fade after the death of company founder Dietrich Mateschitz last year, of whom he was known to be a close aide.
Speaking to OE24, Marko revealed that his future within the organization will soon be decided.
“There will be talks next week.
“There are different trends and variants.
“The decisions are still open - including what I will do next. My current contract runs until the end of 2024.”
Speaking of Red Bull's supremacy in Formula 1, the 80-year-old expressed disappointment that Mateschitz was not around to witness the success this season as the team won 21 out of the 22 Grand Prix. He added:
“The way we used to be able to decide things with Dietrich Mateschitz was unique.
“After this winning season, which put everything else the shade, I was incredibly sorry that he was no longer able to experience it.”
