F1 News: Lewis Hamilton And Charles Leclerc Share Doubt Over Sport For Next Few Years

Charles Leclerc speculates that Red Bull's F1 dominance may persist until 2026, a sentiment echoed by Lewis Hamilton. While Mercedes strives to bridge the gap, teams like McLaren exhibit potential to challenge Red Bull's supremacy.
As F1 returns after the long Summer break, questions have arisen of what the short-term future of the sport will look like - will Red Bull continue to overshadow other teams until 2026? While this is seemingly a long way off, Red Bull's current dominance could take years for other teams to understand.

Charles Leclerc's Predictions
Charles Leclerc, the Ferrari driver vying for his first championship win, voiced his apprehensions to the media ahead of this weekend's Grand Prix at Zandvoort.
"They have a really big margin and it's going to be very, very difficult to catch them before the change in regulations," the Monegasque driver insisted.
Red Bull is currently 256 points ahead of Mercedes who sit second in the Constructor Standings with a meagre 247 points to their name . And after a record breaking number of wins in a row from the Milton Keynes squad, it's highly unlikely that any team will be able to catch them before the season is up. But it's the performance of the RB19 that is worrying drivers.
July's Belgian Grand Prix finished with Max Verstappen 22 seconds ahead of his teammate Sergio Perez, who in turn was 32 seconds ahead of The Scuderia's Leclerc. That is a huge gap for other teams to make up, especially taking into account the rate of development that Red Bull has shown between seasons.
Lewis Hamilton's Agreement
Agreeing with Leclerc, the Mercedes driver said the following:
“The fact is, they are ahead and most likely have started developing next year’s car already months before everybody else as they’re 100, 200 points ahead in the championship. So it’s very possible that Charles could be right.”
However, according to the 7-time champion, the Brackley team is working hard on their development:
“We’re working on a steep gradient trying to develop and get ourselves to close the gap.
“Whether or not we can next year will be proved within that. I hope we can.”
Sergio Perez is Cautious But Optimistic
Red Bull isn't resting on its laurels. Sergio Perez remains cautiously optimistic. Highlighting McLaren's surprising resurgence this year, which saw them competing for podiums after their challenging start of the season, he emphasises the unpredictable nature of the sport.
”When you see the sort of jumps up teams like McLaren can do from where they were in the beginning of the season to where they are now, it only takes another team to make such an improvement.
“So I wouldn’t think that and we are not thinking like that. We are really working hard, we are really trying to improve race by race on all of the different areas.”
With Red Bull looking to win every race this season, fans will be hoping there's a change coming to the sport for next year.
