Lewis Hamilton faced an early exit during the sprint shootout of the Austrian Grand Prix after he had a lap time deleted and was later blocked. However, Hamilton seemed unphased by his poor starting position for the sprint race, admitting that it "doesn't really matter anyway".

The 7-time champion's qualifying issues came from poor time management from the Mercedes team, resulting in a P18 start that he soon translated into a P10 finish.

But talking about his performance during the shootout session, he was quite obviously annoyed and put out by his results.

“The timing was not right,” Hamilton admitted. “The sprint race doesn’t really matter anyway so today I’ll just have some fun from the back and it is what it is. I don’t really feel anyway about it to be honest.”

Adding that there's "nothing to say" about the team's choice of strategy, he continued to add that he should have qualified further up the grid.

“We’ll just focus on our job,” Hamilton noted. “Could have easily been much further up but I’ll just have fun at the back.”

Hamilton's teammate George Russell qualified further up the field in P15 after hydraulic issues ahead of SQ2. Ending the race, Russell finished P8, two positions ahead of Hamilton.
