F1 News: Lewis Hamilton Sounds Alarm As Red Bull Dominance Expected To Continue

Over the past eighteen months, Red Bull's grip on the current F1 regulations has been nothing short of compelling. It's a factor that Lewis Hamilton, the seasoned Mercedes veteran, isn't overlooking. He has repeatedly brought up how leading teams, with their extreme advantages, can jump ahead and start development on next year's cars sooner than the rest. Now, Hamilton adds another concern to the list: the cost cap is making it harder for other teams to bridge the gap, too.
"There is a chance that Red Bull, with the cost cap and the way it’s set up now, they’re so far ahead that they could dominate for the next three years," Hamilton shared with Channel 4, shedding light on the potential dominance of the Milton Keynes powerhouse.
The British champion isn't unaware of his dominance throughout the hybrid era, however, and is keen to add that Red Bull deserves the incredible pace they are currently boasting.
“There is a chance that Red Bull, with the cost cap and the way it’s set up now, they’re so far ahead that they could dominate for the next three years.
“And Max [Verstappen] and his team have done an exceptional job and they truly deserve the success they’re having, and I’m not trying to taint that at all.”
Yet, he isn't ready to accept a future of monotony in Formula 1. Hamilton emphasised the need for actions to curb such prolonged periods of dominance, such as his own. Drawing parallels to his own era and Michael Schumacher's, Hamilton feels these should not just be repetitive narratives.
“In my view, it’s vital that we keep the dialogue open, so we don’t repeat history with long periods of a single team’s reign. We’ve got to constantly evolve and refine the sport to make the championship races closer.
“Because, at the end of the day, having a neck-and-neck championship race till the last event – there's nothing quite like it. It's truly thrilling,”
Even despite his own dominance, for the most part he still had thrilling duels with drivers such as Sebastian Vettel, Nico Rosberg, and Max Verstappen. What Verstappen has right now is a lead so far, if he was his own constructor, he would still be winning. And that's not what fans of our glorious sport want.
Now, I'm not belittling the Dutch driver's performance whatsoever. He is something else. A talent that only comes about once every ten years. And he completely deserves the potent RB19 that he pilots most weekends. His perfection behind the wheel is a testament to the years and years of practice and determination he's put into racing to get where he is.
But, the question is, should F1 be doing something more to reel him in? Even he has decided that being 20 seconds ahead of the pack is boring. The second question is how?
