F1 News: Lewis Hamilton Speaks Out As Racing Series Comes To An End

Seven-time F1 champion Lewis Hamilton has spoken out on the W Series having to file for administration this week.

Hamilton was a big supporter of the all-female racing series and has since spoken out on the disappointing news. During the drivers' press conference ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix, the British driver explained to the press:

"I really enjoyed watching the W Series when I was in Austin last year. I like to go on the pit wall and watch them and I felt it was really important to go down to the paddock and get to meet them.

"I don't get time a lot through the weekend to go down to visit GP2 which is where I came from but for me it was just important to go and encourage them and let them know that they are being seen and they are being watched, being heard.

"I think it's amazing what Susie [Wolff] and her group are doing. I raced with Susie since karting.

"She's had such a great career but she's got such a great voice and I am encouraged by the work she is doing."

Wolff is the managing director of F1 Academy which Hamilton referenced. The F1 Academy is there to encourage more young women into motorsports.

The W Series, an all-women racing championship, entered administration following financial difficulties. The setback came less than a year after the early closure of its third season due to monetary constraints.

The series, which debuted in 2019, was initially optimistic about a 2023 return. However, recent financial hurdles have appointed Kevin Ley and Henry Shinners as Joint Administrators to explore revival options. The future of this unique platform for female racers is now uncertain.
