F1 News: Lewis Hamilton's Damning Comments Lead To FIA Internal Review

Formula 1's governing body, the FIA, is taking active steps towards inclusivity, prompted by Lewis Hamilton's recent critique of their gendered regulatory language. The seven-time world champion has a history of advocating for increasing inclusivity and diversity within motorsports as well as fighting against racism.
Hamilton recently reacted to the dated nature of FIA's regulatory language where drivers are solely addressed as 'he'. In comparison, sports like MotoGP employ the more inclusive term 'riders'.

When this was brought forward to Hamilton by RacingNews365, he responded:
"It doesn't surprise me. It is only men in that room and it has been since I've been here.
"There has not been enough importance [on changing], probably. Maybe there is another side but definitely not encouraging to hear that."
Acknowledging Hamilton's concerns, the FIA has now responded with assurances of its commitment to gender inclusivity. An FIA representative explained that their current statutes are meant to be inclusive, emphasising that terms referencing any individual are designed to apply to both genders. Importantly, they confirmed the initiation of an internal review to address and update the language in their regulatory framework.
The spokesperson explained:
"The FIA statutes are prefaced by a statement that terms referring to any person are applicable to both genders, and this topic is currently under internal review."
The British driver has received a huge amount of praise for spurring on the internal review. One fan posted to social media:
"Always taking the leadership role. Thank you, Sir Lewis Hamilton"
