During the final practice round at the Barcelona Grand Prix, American rookie Logan Sargeant of the Williams team experienced a significant setback. He crashed, causing substantial time loss for his team before the start of the qualifying round. However, the young driver insists that the incident hasn't affected his confidence, although he's remaining realistic, believing that "everything I'm doing still needs improving".

In the previous month, after a series of crashes early in his first F1 season, Williams team leader James Vowles had talked with the driver about maintaining control. The American rookie surprisingly managed to avoid any mishaps in Monaco. Yet, his Barcelona campaign proved to be a challenge, with him crashing during the final practice leading to a hurried repair of his FW45.

Williams decided to start Sargeant's race from the pitlane on Sunday after a suspension setup change, resulting in the rookie driver finishing at the bottom of the pack. Commenting on his performance, he said,

"I felt like the tyre just went away from me quickly and it was a tough last stint," he admitted. "So I just need to understand why [there was a] variation between stints, other than that I was happy with the first two."

He's adamant his management of tyres is improving, however, as he's starting to understand how to drive just below the limit.

"It's definitely better. It needs to keep improving, for sure," he maintained. "But everything I'm doing still needs to keep improving, from qualy to race to everything, so [it's] just part of it.

"The biggest thing is [to] understand why the first two [stints] were good and why the last one wasn't."

Reflecting on the mishap in the final practice session, Sargeant noted:

"I think the one mistake [on Saturday] was very, very costly, even heading into qualifying."

However, when asked if his confidence had been shaken, Sargeant responded simply: "Absolutely not."
