Two-time F1 champion Max Verstappen has hit back at Mercedes CEO Toto Wolff for his comments regarding the Dutch driver's record-breaking win at the Italian Grand Prix.

The race in Monza saw Verstappen take his tenth consecutive victory of the season which broke the record previously held by Sebastian Vettel. When asked about it after the race, Wolff casually commented, "It's for Wikipedia, and nobody reads that anyway."

Up to now, Verstappen hasn't commented on the remarks, however, during the drivers' press conference ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix, Verstappen responded to the comments from Wolff stating:

"Well no, I'm not disappointed in that. They had a pretty shit race, so he was probably still pissed off with their performance. He almost sounds like he's an employee of our team sometimes. But no, luckily [he is] not.

"I think it's just important that you focus on your own team. That's what we do as well. That's what we did in the past as well when we were behind them and when they were dominating. And I think you should be able to appreciate when a team is doing really well, which I think we've done in the past because it worked also as a kind of inspiration.

"To see someone that dominant, it was very impressive at the time. And we knew that we just had to work harder, try to be better and try to get to that level. And now that we are there, we are very happy, of course, that we are there and we are enjoying the moment. And honestly, that's all I can say about it."

Red Bull has won every race so far this season with twelve of the victories being taken by Verstappen and the remaining two by Sergio Perez. If the Austrian team finishes with a 1-2 in Singapore and Mercedes don't score any points, or, they finish with a 1-2, get the fastest lap, and Mercedes score 1 point or less, Red Bull will take the championship win.
