F1 News: Mercedes Reveals Two New Upgrade Packages For Red Bull Battle

Max Verstappen, our reigning champion, once again stood atop the podium in Montreal, marking his sixth win in eight races for Red Bull. While this might seem like another chapter in Red Bull's ongoing saga of dominance, the competition is catching up. Mercedes, for example, has two upgrades planned for future races this season.
Verstappen finished the race ahead, but not by a landslide. The margin of victory was a mere 9.5 seconds, significantly less than the 24-second lead in Barcelona. The fight for supremacy in Formula 1 is heating up, and Verstappen had to pull out all the stops to stay ahead.
In fact, Fernando Alonso was told to lift and coast with the Silverstone team worrying about fuel issues on the AMR23. This turned out to be a non-issue after analysis of the car post-race, but means that the Spanish driver should have been even closer to the current championship leader.
Meanwhile, Mercedes is hopeful that the next set of upgrades will bridge the gap to Red Bull. Team principal Toto Wolff admitted that the W14 still has traction issues, "but we are improving in that area as well. The new platform we have now is helping us," he told press after the race. "And we still have two upgrades for the upcoming races. A major one in Silverstone and another before the summer break."
Hamilton added to this, saying: "We need more rear downforce, better traction, and less drag."
For fans who are worrying that this championship is almost open and shut, with Red Bull looking like they could win every single race of the season, we are far from the end. Aston Martin are hot on the Milton Keynes team's heels, and as for Mercedes, well they could certainly start to close that gap in the second half of the season.
