F1 News: Red Bull Director Reveals Why RB19 DRS Is More Efficient Than Other Teams

Red Bull technical director Pierre Waché has spoken out on the dominant RB19 DRS, claiming that is it "absolutely not magic".
This comes after reports from Auto Motor und Sport that Formula One Management is considering banning DRS from qualifying sessions which would hinder Red Bull as they have an incredibly efficient DRS in comparison to the rest of the grid.
During an interview with L'Equipe, Waché explained that the reason the DRS on the RB19 is so effective is because it "works better with the concept of the car". He commented:
"Our DRS is absolutely not magic. It obviously does not open further than at other teams.
"If it is more effective with us, it is because it just works better with the concept of the car. Even when we have the rear wing closed, we already don't have that much drag and then when it opens, it gets another boost."
Waché went on to explain why putting on a bigger rear wing would not be effective. He continued:
"The idea is absolutely not to put a bigger rear wing on it to increase the DRS effect.
"The optimisation has been done with the floor: we create a lot of downforce in the corners when the DRS is closed, but when the DRS is active we actually have very little downforce.
"A DRS that opens further is useless for us, that actually reduces the effect and increases drag."
Despite the reports of banning DRS in qualifying sessions, nothing has been confirmed yet. The report emerged following claims from fans that the 2023 season is becoming boring due to the predictability of the races.
