F1 News: Rumours Of Surprising Sebastian Vettel Racing Return Squashed

ABT Cupra Formula E team boss Thomas Biermaier has shot down rumours of four-time F1 champion Sebastian Vettel joining the team.

Rumours began to run wild when Biermaier spoke about a replacement to Robin Frijns next season. He said at the time:

"Maybe we will go to Switzerland. There are former drivers there who are committed to the environment and do a lot of sustainability. Maybe one of them will be in our car in the future."

However, during a recent interview with Motorsport-Total.com, Biermaier confirmed that words were "put in his mouth" and that although Vettel would be an ideal replacement, there is no substance in these rumours.

Naturally, the original interviewer asked if Vettel would be an option as he lives in Switzerland and is very public about his passion for the environment and sustainability. However, Biermaier explained that:

"I did talk about that name, that name was put in my mouth."

The F1 icon decided to retire at the end of the 2022 season and there has been a huge amount of speculation since then of where fans might see him next. There were also rumours of him joining Formula One as the sustainability manager during the sports journey to become carbon neutral by 2030, but these reports were swiftly put down.

The German driver is continuing with his own fight for carbon neutral racing and was recently a big part of the Goodwood Festival of Speed where he raced two of his iconic F1 cars up the hill climb on sustainable fuels for his company Race Without A Trace.
