F1 News: Sergio Perez Admits to Racism Within The Sport in Saddening Revelation

Sergio Perez has spoken about racism within F1.

Sergio Perez has recently been quizzed on racism within Formula One and the difficulties for Latin American drivers to join the sport. 

During his appearance at the Red Bull showrun in Madrid last weekend, the Mexican driver spoke in a small press conference. 

The conversation veered towards the journey of Latin American drivers making their way into Formula 1 and the difficulties they face. Perez explained, as quoted by Motorsport.com:

"The important issue that we have is that we have to come at a very early age, which implies a greater commitment on the part of the family. Being very young, at 12-13 years old, is when you have to leave for Europe, Otherwise you arrive too late."

He further elaborated on the complexity of navigating different tracks and rules, making it quite an uphill task for Latin American drivers to breakthrough into Formula 1. 

"The tracks, the rules, etc., it's more complicated. So, that's why it's so difficult for Latin American drivers today to get to Formula 1, because leaving your country at such a young age is very hard."

As part of the ongoing dialogue around the hardships Latin American drivers face in reaching F1, Perez was queried on the potential influence of nationality on securing an opportunity within the coveted circle of F1 drivers.

Responding to whether a driver's nationality carries weight in the world's premier racing competition, Perez succinctly replied with a definitive "yes". 

This comes as seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton has spoken out once again to expose racism within the sport. The British driver recently celebrated former rival and friend Sebastian Vettel who always took a stand with him. Hamilton has been passionate for a long time to use his platform to fight against racism and fight for increased inclusivity and diversity within motorsports.
