F1 News: Sergio Perez Concedes To Max Verstappen - "I've Had A Few Bad Races"

The Spanish capital Madrid saw Sergio Perez doing a demo on the streets on Saturday as he took part in a Red Bull event that saw a gathering of around 50,000 fans!
However, Perez revealed a bitter truth to his fans that might have been unpleasant to many. He said:
"In Formula 1, only your position after Abu Dhabi counts. But I am not second in the World Cup standings by chance. I have won races. I have had a few bad races, but there is still a lot to achieve. My goal now? That is to become number two in the world. And I only think about the Hungarian GP"
Perez won two of the four opening races this season, making him a strong contender in the early stages. But eventually, teammate Max Verstappen's lead took a giant leap after leaving a 99-point gap between him and Perez in second place.
Now that ten Formula 1 races have been completed, and with that kind of a gap between him and Verstappen, it would be foolish to fight for first place. Perez's words suggest that he is now racing to maintain second place in the championship standings.
Speaking of the Drivers' Standings, Perez leads Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso by just 19 points. He also hints that the regulations have helped other teams improve their car's performance. He said:
"Fernando is a big surprise this year, they [Aston Martin] have made a big step. But also McLaren in the last race. Everything is much closer together, with these rules."
While Verstappen might have made the number one position untouchable for the rest of the pack. The second position on the Drivers' Standings now seems to be on the radar for many potential drivers. With the competition getting stronger, we can see why Perez seems to have shifted his focus to become the second-best on the grid.
