F1 News: Sergio Perez Unveils Singapore GP Helmet To Mark Momentous Occasion

Red Bull driver Sergio Perez has uploaded a new video on his profile on X where he unveils a spanking new crash helmet for the Singapore Grand Prix to celebrate his 250th GP. The white helmet comes with highlights of the Mexican flag with 250 written in bold green over it.

After all the controversies Perez has been a part of lately- be it the speculations on his contract extension with Red Bull to team advisor Helmut Marko's racist remarks on him, the Singapore Grand Prix weekend brings another occasion for him to cheer. The last one being a remarkable second-place finish at Monza.

Seeming rather excited about the upcoming milestone of his career, he wrote:

"Reaching 250 GPs in Singapore … not even in my wildest dreams did I imagine we’d be here! Celebrating with a special helmet for my country because I know this means a lot to us I hope you like it, here’s to a great weekend in Singapore."

Perez is the second driver from the Americas to reach the 250 GP mark after former F1 driver Rubens Barrichello, who ended his career in the sport with 322 GPs in his account.

It is however important to point out that the calculation for the total number of Grand Prix is based on the number of starts throughout the driver's career and not the number of race finishes.

For example, Perez failed to start 3 races in his career until now- the first being at the 2011 Monaco GP due to a crash during practice, the second being the 2014 Malaysian GP for a power unit problem, and lastly, the 2020 British GP for testing COVID-19 positive.

The above three races therefore are considered void and won't be accounted for in his total GP count. Perez is the eleventh driver in the history of F1 to reach 250 race starts.

With a podium finish at Monza, Perez has been able to increase the points gap in the drivers' standings between him in second place at 219 points, and Fernando Alonso in third place at 170 points.
