F1 News: South African Grand Prix Confirmed To Not Join 2024 Calendar After Political Questions Raised

Confirmations have surfaced that the South African Grand Prix will definitely not happen next year. This information follows speculative chatter from numerous sources.
The Grand Prix was meant to be a revival of the historic South African event, last held in 1993. Enthusiasm for its return was widespread, and even the Liberty Media CEO, Greg Maffei, prematurely announced its comeback.
Seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton had voiced his support for the Grand Prix in Africa. He hoped to experience racing in Africa during his career, adding to the excitement and anticipation.
However, the spokesperson for the South African Grand Prix has now officially confirmed to News24:
"We are aware of the fact that a 2024 Grand Prix at Kyalami is not going ahead. However, we cannot offer insights as to the reason for this decision."
Despite the enthusiasm, it is thought that political factors primarily led to the cancellation of plans for the South African Grand Prix. It is speculated that South Africa's political ties with Russia influenced this decision.
Russia's Grand Prix was axed from the F1 schedule last year due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The FIA also implemented a ban on Russian and Belarussian participants, barring they sign a neutrality agreement.
Because of these political ties, a South African GP seems infeasible for the near future. This situation could potentially offer a reprieve for Spa, another Grand Prix venue. As of now, F1 has not officially commented on these rumors.
