F1 World Weighs In On De Vries Criticism: "Dead Man Walking"

The F1 World is weighing in on recent comments from Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko about AlphaTauri driver Nyck de Vries.
During an appearance on the Inside Line F1 podcast, Marko explained that he had originally backed the Dutch driver to join the AlphaTauri team when Pierre Gasly announced he was moving to Alpine, especially after his impressive debut at the 2022 Italian Grand Prix. However, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner was not keen on signing de Vries, which Marko has now agreed was probably the right decision as the driver has not been able to put a point on the board yet.
Fans have been quick to react to the strong comments with one sharing the sound clip to Reddit. They wrote:
"Helmut Marko on a podcast about which driver he disagreed about with Horner the last time: 'I would say Nyck De Vries, and he [Horner] was, at the moment, looks like he was right'"
One fan pointed out that the AlphaTauri car is far from the best on the grid, they responded:
"He is in a very strange place, driving wise. He's certainly talented but just under the bar to be a F1 talent. Add in the fact that his rookie drive is that AT tractor which hates braking."
Unfortunately for the rookie, there are a few names floating around as potential replacements. Both Mick Schumacher and Daniel Ricciardo are wanting to come back to permanent seats on the grid after taking a year out as reserve/third drivers. On top of this, there is the Red Bull junior team with the likes of Liam Lawson and Ayumu Iwasa wanting to make a step up. There is also the impressive IndyCar drivers Alex Palou and Pato O'Ward who have been mentioned for F1.
One fan commented that they would like to see Palou and O'Ward make their F1 debut. They wrote:
"I would like to see Palou and O'Ward on the grid. I think both, or at least one of them, could surprise."
Another fan did not hold back at all, arguing:
"De Vries is a dead man walking.
"He will and should be replaced at this point. He even makes Yuki look twice as good (which he isn’t). Never understood why they took De Vries in the first place. Despite his titles in F2 and Formula E his driving has always been average and full off mistakes. In F2 it always struck me how bad his tyre management and overall choices on the track were."
