Fernando Alonso looks to fight for the lead into T1 at Canada

Fernando Alonso was the main talking point from qualifying in Canada, continuing his fantastic form throughout the weekend and securing a phenomenal P2 starting position for Alpine.
The Spaniard set the fastest lap in FP3 ahead of qualifying, which generated great anticipation for what he could produce in similar conditions later.
The Double World Champion avoided the pitfalls others experienced in qualifying, showing consistently strong pace in the wet conditions in all qualifying sessions, never looking at the risk of being eliminated.

Alonso has again proven age is just a number this season, consistently maximising the potential of his A522 and often being denied good points due to reliability issues or general bad luck.
However, Alonso has looked in peak form throughout the weekend so far, so the Alpine squad will be working diligently to ensure that all of the weekend's efforts do not go to waste.
Post-qualifying, the Spaniard made it clear that he intends to be aggressive into turn one, even though Red Bull's race pace could likely be out of reach throughout a Grand Prix.
Still, Alpine showed strong performance in their Friday race simulations, so if they can carry over that speed into the main event on Sunday, Alonso will fancy his chances at a very strong result.
