F1 fans have been left shocked as Lance Stroll had to retire from the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix on Lap 18.

Everything was going smoothly during the race with the majority of drivers being able to keep out of the drama, until we suddenly heard the Aston Martin team say firmly to the Canadian driver to stop the car immediately.

Shortly after viewers could see marshals spraying the front brakes to cool them down, however, the British team have not revealed what happened to his AMR23 yet.

With Stroll out of the race, the team are now pinning all of their hopes on Fernando Alonso to get the team on the podium once again. The Spanish driver is currently sitting in second place with roughly 30 laps to go.

Stroll's retirement caused a safety car on track, much to the Sky Sports pundit's dismay as he had been able to get the car off the track so no one had to go onto the track to remove the car.

The safety car has brought the field much closer together so we are expecting some close battles on-track once the racing gets going again.

UPDATE

The Aston Martin team are still investigating what happened to Stroll's AMR23, however, they have shared to social media that there seemed to be an issue with the hybrid system.
