Lando Norris Almost Hits Personel As They Run Across Pit Lane In Repeat FIA Offence

It was a heart-stopping moment during the 5th lap of the F1 Miami Grand Prix, as McLaren’s Lando Norris entered the pits and came terrifyingly close to hitting a person who had recklessly darted across the pit-lane. Fortunately, Norris had quick reflexes and avoided what could have been a disastrous incident.
This incident comes just a week after Esteban Ocon had a close call as he had to make drastic actions to avoid personnel on the final lap of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix a couple of weeks ago. It’s clear that safety concerns in the pit-lane have been raised and the FIA has taken action.
"This is crazy," Ocon said at the time. "It could have been a big, big one today. And it's definitely something that needs to be discuss. It's something that we don't want to see."
He continued:
"I don't understand why we're starting to prep the podium and prep the ceremony while we're still racing. There's one lap to go, there's still people that didn't pit. I'm arriving at 300 kph, I'm braking very late, I see the people around."
New rules have been implemented to prevent mechanics from leaving their garages and to stop other personnel or VIPs from entering the pit-lane until the last car has crossed the finish line.
"Any infringement will result in the removal of passes from the team(s) in question from subsequent events, and potential reporting of the infringing team(s) to the stewards”.
Despite these measures, the incident involving Norris shows that there’s still work to be done in ensuring the safety of everyone in the pit-lane. Fortunately, the FIA has acknowledged the incident.
“We are aware of the incident and looking into it with local organisers."
It’s believed it was a volunteer marshal who crossed the pits, but a result of the enquiry is yet to be released.
