Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen share a vision for the future of F1 races, as the calendar expands to three races in the United States in 2023.

The drivers believe that the next step for the sport is to return to another continent. The addition of three races in the US this year is significant for F1, which previously had no races in the country between 2007 and 2012.

However, there is one continent where F1 has yet to return to, having raced there in the 1990s. Hamilton has previously stated that a return to Africa could be crucial for the growth of F1, saying that the sport "needs" a race on the continent. Verstappen shares the same view, when asked which country or race he would like to see make a comeback.

The Belgian-Dutch driver explained to the media:

"I do think that we still need a race in Africa. We are basically on every other continent, so I do think that's the next step for Formula 1.

"We have history of course in South Africa, for example. So that would be a great addition."

The possibility of bringing back the South African Grand Prix at the Kyalami Circuit was discussed at different points last year, but unfortunately, negotiations for its return have fallen apart. The main issue was the lack of government support, which proved to be a major roadblock for the potential event.

Despite its absence from the F1 calendar since 1993, there has been considerable interest in the return of the South African Grand Prix, which was formerly held at the Kyalami Circuit. However, discussions have been plagued by uncertainty, and with government support not forthcoming, the prospects for its revival remain bleak.

The South African Grand Prix was one of the most prestigious races in F1 history, and it featured on the calendar from the 1960s to the early 1990s. Its absence has been felt by F1 fans across the globe, who have been eagerly anticipating its return to the circuit.

Although there have been attempts to revive the race, including discussions with F1 boss Stefano Domenicali, the lack of government support has been a significant setback. Nevertheless, the possibility of the South African Grand Prix returning to the calendar in the future still remains, as F1 seeks to expand its reach to new regions and audiences.
