Lewis Hamilton Reflects Over Long Career: "It Went So Quick"

Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time world champion, has recently expressed his dissatisfaction with driving underperforming cars to Fox Sports Australia. Following the implementation of new regulations in the sport, his team, Mercedes, has been facing significant challenges, which has caused Hamilton's winning streak to falter. Moreover, the British racing driver also revealed that his illustrious career seems to be passing by rapidly.

In 2022, Formula 1 introduced new regulations that emphasised the increased use of ground effect aerodynamics to improve the closeness of racing. However, Mercedes has been unable to adapt effectively to these changes in comparison to the likes of Red Bull and Ferrari, and continues to struggle in 2023. As a result, their W14 race car has not been competitive enough to secure victories, leading to Hamilton admitting his difficulties with the car.

By 2022, the Red Bull team had shown complete dominance in the sport, while Mercedes' cars experienced a decline in performance. Hamilton's frustration with driving an inferior car was palpable in an interview.

In a candid interview with Fox Sports Australia, Hamilton explained, "I don’t like driving not great cars. I don’t like driving a car that’s not the car we had meant to have, but I love that challenge of like what can I do with it. Like okay, wins are not possible right now, so what is the maximum we can get?"

Currently in his seventeenth season in Formula 1, Hamilton has managed to secure a podium finish in each season - a remarkable record. As he enters his 11th season with Mercedes, the racing legend can't help but feel that his career has flown by:

"I don’t understand how it went so quick. I feel like it’s going by within a blink of an eye," Hamilton shared with Fox Sports Australia.

This won't help rumours of the British driver retiring after this season.
