Mercedes driver George Russell has urged the FIA for revisions to the existing rules in order to make the racing "more exciting". With the dominance of Red Bull in the championship and the absence of intense racing moments, both Russell and numerous fans express their dissatisfaction with the current season's lacklustre start. Russell has put forward suggestions to the FIA, aiming to inject more excitement into Formula 1.

The British driver emphasised the need for simple adjustments to intensify the racing experience during interviews with the media following the Miami Grand Prix. One of his proposals involves increasing tyre degradation, aiming to curtail the prevalence of one-stop races. By implementing this modification, the Formula 1 landscape could witness more strategic decisions and varied pit stop strategies, ultimately fostering thrilling battles on the track. Russell explained:

"Simple things like more tyre degradation can make racing more exciting. At the end of the day, we all want to have the best, exciting races possible."

Russell has also taken issue with the recent DRS changes. According to the British driver, the DRS system, which alters the rear wing to increase speed and reduce drag, has diminished the skill and artistry required for overtaking maneuvers. His criticism of the system began in Baku, and he now seeks discussions with the FIA to reimagine the approach. Russell envisions a return to the essence of go-karting, where aerodynamics were not a hindrance, and drivers fiercely battled on track. He added:

"As far as DRS is concerned, we have taken the wrong path.

"We want to be able to race like we fought each other in go-karting, when aerodynamics were not an issue. That is the ultimate dream."

Although some adjustments were made at the beginning of the 2022 season to facilitate closer racing, Russell believes that further measures are necessary. While acknowledging the progress made so far, he urges the FIA to take the next step in enhancing Formula 1. Russell emphasises that the sport must continue evolving and adapting to provide a captivating spectacle for both the drivers and the fans. He commented:

"It's a good step, but now it's time to take the next one."

In addition to his concerns regarding the on-track action, Russell recently voiced his opinion about the Miami GP drivers' parade, which he thought was distracting for their pre-race routine.
