Miami GP News: Red Bull Clears Up Max Verstappen Rumours After Exit Threats

Red Bull Racing's star driver Max Verstappen has been vocal about the changes in Formula 1, hinting that he may not stay beyond his current contract. However, team boss Christian Horner isn't concerned about an early departure from the Dutchman.

Recently, Verstappen expressed his disapproval of the new format of sprint weekends, which he was never fond of in the first place. He stated that these busy weekends might take the fun away from racing.

Thankfully, Verstappen's contract has several years remaining, and Horner isn't worried about his departure anytime soon. The Red Bull team boss revealed at the Miami press conference that the Dutchman is always open to voicing his opinion.

Although Verstappen has expressed concerns about the current state of Formula 1, Horner believes that the future is difficult to predict. He stated that Fernando Alonso probably didn't expect to be racing at the age of 42, and Lewis Hamilton is already in his latter 30s. Therefore, it is entirely possible that Verstappen's views might change before his contract expires in 2028.

Horner explained during the Miami Grand Prix team press conference:

"Thankfully, his contract has many years to run on it, so we don't see that as an imminent risk. But, of course, he has an opinion on it. He will always speak openly and voice his opinion.

"Did Fernando Alonso think he'd be racing at 42? Probably not. Lewis Hamilton is in his latter 30s. So the future is just so difficult to predict. I think it's great that drivers do have opinions and don't just become stereotypes."
