Mick Schumacher, who had driven for Haas F1 over the past two seasons, found himself without a seat there for the upcoming 2023 season. Haas team principal, Guenther Steiner, opted to sign Nico Hulkenberg instead. As a result, the German driver had to settle for reserve driver at Mercedes. While Schumacher's talent might make him an interesting driver for Audi, there are currently no ongoing discussions with him.

Despite the setback, Schumacher remains optimistic about securing a permanent contract in F1 by 2024. However, Audi won't be the team to offer him that opportunity, as they are planning their entry into the sport in 2026 as they take over the Sauber team.

"We are currently engaging in discussions with various stakeholders, team principals, and drivers. However, there have been no specific negotiations with Schumacher regarding a contract," Duesmann told Der Spiegel.

Duesmann did acknowledge that Schumacher's nationality makes him an attractive option for Audi, both being German, but he clarified that it is not a requirement for them to have a German driver on their team.

Audi has already brought on board Andreas Seidl, the former team boss of McLaren, to lead their Formula 1 project. Seidl will be responsible for ensuring that Audi is fully prepared for their debut in 2026.

As for Schumacher's future, it remains uncertain whether he will join the team when they make their entry. Currently, Valtteri Bottas and Guanyu Zhou are unsurprisingly vying for spots on the Alfa Romeo team.
