Nyck de Vries Explains Poor Bahrain Qualifying Result: "Small Mistakes"
Nyck isn't happy with his weekend so far.

Nyck de Vries had a difficult time in the first qualifying session of the 2023 F1 Season at Bahrain as the Dutchman finished 19th on the grid, only ahead of Pierre Gasly who lost out due to track limits.
De Vries was out-driven by teammate Yuki Tsunoda, with the Japanese driver faster by 7-tenths. This was obviously disappointing for de Vries, who blamed it on a bad run of events.
"No, of course not. The goal is always to qualify as far up front as possible. In itself, I was pretty okay with my first two runs. In my last run, I couldn't make the move. I lost the back end coming out of Turn 1.
"My tyres weren't warm enough either and in the end we weren't fast enough to qualify better [than this]."
He was asked where everything went wrong:
"It's a confluence of circumstances. I made a small mistake here and there every run.
"The second run was the most complete and in the latter I was behind from Turn 1.
"I think the longruns were relatively slightly better than the pace in our short runs. We are going to make the most of it," he told the press as he looks forward to redeeming himself tomorrow.
