Resurfaced footage of Michael Schumacher finding out he had equalled Ayrton Senna's F1 race wins, something which Max Verstappen also achieved at the Canadian Grand Prix last weekend, had fans reminiscing of one of the most iconic rivalries on the grid as well as the reasoning behind the heart-wrenching moment.

The video shows the F1 legend being told in a drivers' press conference that he had equalled Senna's number of race wins. He comments on it briefly and then breaks down. Mika Hakkinen, who was one of Schumacher's biggest rivals at the time, consoled him and instigated a break in the conference. Schumacher's brother, Ralf, was also in the conference and comforted him.

One fan commented about Hakkinen, they wrote:

"Mika the legend! Great rival on track and a decent human being off track."

Another fan wanted to give some of the other users some context on why this was particularly emotional for the German driver. They commented:

"Adding some context. Senna died a few corners ahead of Schumacher chasing him. As much as they were rivals he loved Senna. After a race they would meet and show each other what they did wrong and where they were loosing speed. It was special."

Someone else touched on the rivalry between Schumacher and Hakkinen, they responded:

"The rivalry between Michael Schumacher and Mika Hakkinen was probably the best in F1. There was off track respect and on track rivalry"

A particularly emotional fan explained that they couldn't hold back their tears. They wrote:

"A tough German like Micheal breaking down like this, his arch-enemy, one of the toughest competitors on-track trying to calm him down & almost breaking in tears too, only a legacy left by Ayrton Senna can create such scene! Can't hold my tears no matter how many times I see it!"
