Sergio Perez Hopeful To "Keep On Top" As Upgrades Are Introduced Across The Grid In Baku

Sergio Perez has spoken ahead of the upcoming Azerbaijan Grand Prix revealing that he believes the other teams may have closed the gap to Red Bull during the four-week break from racing, but confirms he is ready to put the problems from Australia behind him.
The Mexican driver encountered problems at the last race in Australia at the start of the month where he had to start from the back. However, he is ready to put that behind him and hopes a repeat of that will not be on the cards this weekend.
Speaking during the drivers' press conference in Baku, Perez reflected on the Australian Grand Prix:
"It obviously stays in the back of your mind, but you have to reset yourself and move on from that.
"I think there were many specific issues we had all that day. It was a really horrible day on Saturday in FP3 and qualifying. Really bad, but I think we understood a lot of the problems that we had.
"It wasn't just a single problem that would be really easy to just get rid of. It was a combination of a few things that caused us have this problem.
"Hopefully we don't get to see that again. You don't want to see that, especially here in Baku."
When asked if he is concerned about the other teams making gains on Red Bull, who has been dominant so far this season, Perez explained that he expects the gap to the rest of the field to be smaller but remains hopeful they can stay on top. He continued:
"Yes, certainly. Of course, when you are in a strong position, you just want to keep going and don't let others close up the gap.
"But of course everyone is working flat out and we're also doing the same. So we're not taking anything for granted.
"So hopefully we're bringing some upgrades here and we hopefully are able to keep on top."
