Sergio Perez Reveals His Azerbaijan GP Close-Call Which Could Have Cost Him The Win

Sergio Perez's win at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix was a hard-fought victory that almost didn't happen. The Red Bull driver collided with the race wall during the race, and it was a much closer call than he initially let on.
As Perez extended his lead from his teammate Max Verstappen, he clipped the wall at Turn 15. Although the Mexican driver didn't mention it to the team, fans heard them ask Perez about the incident over the radio and asked for an explanation. Perez seemed to downplay the collision as if he wanted to brush it under the carpet and focus on taking his second win of the season.
In his post-race interview, Perez acknowledged the mistake, saying
"[I hit it] Really hard! I had a little bit of luck, especially with that front right, that it didn't blow up."
Despite the accident, Perez's resilience paid off as he claimed the win at both the Azerbaijan Grand Prix and the sprint race. This achievement helped him narrow the gap between him and Verstappen in the drivers' championship, with only six points now separating them.
As the fight for the championship becomes closer, many are wary of the competition between the two Red Bull drivers and are eager to see how the Austrian team will handle the situation.
The 2023 season continues with the upcoming Miami Grand Prix this weekend. Fans are eager to see if Perez can continue his winning streak and edge out Verstappen in the championship standings.
