F1 Rumour: Aston Martin Set To Confirm Honda Partnership Tomorrow

According to the Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, there is some interesting news brewing in the Formula 1 world. Sources close to Honda Racing have revealed that confirmation of a new engine deal is on the horizon, with Aston Martin likely to switch from Mercedes engines to Honda's.

The report from the newspaper states that confirmation will be released on Wednesday following a press conference today.

After the announcement that Red Bull Racing would develop their own powertrains from 2026 and end their partnership with Honda, there have been rumours of the Japanese company forging an alliance with Aston Martin, which are now set to be confirmed.

Despite their departure from Formula 1, Honda achieved remarkable success, winning the drivers' championship in 2021 with Red Bull Racing and their exceptional driver Max Verstappen. The following year, the Austrian team took over the Honda engines, but the Japanese manufacturer remained closely involved in the project. Remarkably, Verstappen once again claimed the drivers' title in 2022, with Red Bull Racing also securing the constructors' championship that year.

With Red Bull Powertrains having found a new partner in Ford, Honda is now actively seeking a new team to supply engines to. Several sources suggest that Aston Martin is the frontrunner for this collaboration. The British racing team has expressed their desire to become the first partner of an engine manufacturer. Although Aston Martin had initially considered building their own engine, it seems that option is no longer viable, making Honda a viable alternative.

Should Honda make its return to Formula 1 alongside Aston Martin, it would undoubtedly have significant implications for the sport. This move would signify a major shift in the balance of power, especially considering the recent accomplishments of Honda with Red Bull Racing. Furthermore, Aston Martin's decision to partner with Honda could provide a much-needed boost to their own performance as they move away from their current partnership with Mercedes.
